The psalmist says: 'One day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.' It's about placement, about priority. Where you belong is worth more than any other achievement.
I was offered a significant promotion in a job that required me to be away from my church community, away from the people I actually love. Everything rational said: take it. More money, more prestige. But this verse kept coming back to me. One day in the courts - which to me meant, one Sunday with my church community - is better than a thousand days anywhere else. So I didn't take the job.
That sounds noble, but honestly it cost me. I still wonder sometimes. But I haven't regretted the choice. The relationships in my church have deepened. The community has become more real to me. I'd rather have that than any title.
