The author distinguishes between people who shrink back and people who persevere. That's a choice. You can draw back from what you know is true because it's too costly, or you can move toward it.
I've been shrinking back lately - from my faith, from commitment, from the vulnerability that real faith requires. I've got good reasons - I've been hurt, I've lost confidence, everything's uncertain.
But the author is saying: that's not who you are. You're not a shrink-back person. You're called to something bigger. I don't know if I'm ready, but at least I'm seeing the choice clearly now. And I'm asking God to help me choose boldness instead of fear.
