I've been doing discipleship work for years and I notice something about new converts - they often have the most passion and the least judgment. They want to do everything and they haven't learned the dangers yet.
Paul's saying don't put new people in leadership too quickly. They're vulnerable to pride and they haven't been tested enough. That feels harsh, but I've seen the damage when a new convert gets power too fast.
I'm focusing more on formation than achievement now - building a faith that lasts rather than making people leaders before they're ready. It's slower, but it's more humbling. And I've learned to see the waiting period as valuable, not wasted.
