Paul announces: 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!' Not improvement. Replacement.
I grew up thinking conversion meant getting better. Becoming a better person through spiritual discipline. I worked hard at it. But I kept finding myself in the same patterns: anger, lust, pride. Then I read this and realized: Paul isn't promising improvement. He's promising new creation. Old has gone. New is here. Not eventually. Now.
That changes the work. It's not about improving myself. It's about recognizing the new person I am in Christ and living from that identity. When lust shows up, I remind myself: that's the old person. I'm new. When anger flares, I remember: this isn't who I am anymore. The old has gone. The new is here. Bit by bit, I'm living into that reality.
