However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. The seventy-two return from their mission amazed that demons obey them. Jesus redirects their focus.
Don't celebrate power. Celebrate belonging. You matter so much that your names are written in heaven. You're known. You're remembered. You're part of something permanent. That's what should make you rejoice. Not effectiveness. Not power. But the fact that you're loved enough to be known and remembered. I think about my own tendency to measure success by outcomes. Jesus is inviting a different measure: am I loved? Am I known? Am I held in heaven's memory?
