Paul concludes: 'Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.' Everything else is temporary. Love is eternal.
I'm a charismatic Christian fascinated by the gifts of the Spirit. Speaking in tongues, prophecy, healing. But Paul keeps me honest: these are temporary. Even my theological knowledge will become obsolete. What remains is love. Just love.
So I'm trying to reorder my priorities. Less concern about having the right spiritual gift or the most accurate theology. More concern about being loving. Less performance, more presence. Less certainty, more humility. Less judgment, more mercy. These things remain when all the spectacular gifts pass away.
