Lights in the sky will mark seasons and days and years. Time is being marked by celestial bodies - something humans didn't create but can read and use.
I study astronomy, and I love this moment in Genesis where time-keeping is introduced. We're not making time; we're reading it from the universe that was created before us.
That feels honest about human agency - we don't control time, but we can organize ourselves by what's available. We're invited to read the sky and structure our lives accordingly.
