Before meeting Esau, Jacob prays: I'm not worthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you've shown me. I've gone from nothing to this.
Jacob is expressing humility about his journey - the impoverished, fleeing man has become prosperous. He's recognizing God's provision and his own unworthiness to receive it.
That prayer shaped how I think about gratitude. It's not just appreciating what you have. It's recognizing that you didn't deserve it, that it was given anyway, and being transformed by that recognition.
When I have, I remember I didn't always have. That memory keeps me generous.
