I'm part of a church plant trying to reclaim what Christianity could be - less institutional, more relational, focused on justice and love. We're small. We're not impressive by any standard metrics.
But John's vision of Christ holding seven stars - the messengers of the seven churches - suggests that God's holding the leaders of small communities. God sees. God's not measuring success by size or money or influence. God's measuring by faithfulness.
I don't need my church to grow large. I need it to be true. And knowing that the risen Christ is holding me, holding my small community, holding this risky vision - that's everything.
