Paul talks about faith and conscience together, like they can't be separated. I've been in Christian circles where conscience got overruled by doctrine - 'God said it, that settles it,' even when it violated my sense of right and wrong.
I'm learning that Paul doesn't set them against each other. Faith includes an educated, sensitive conscience. When I ignore my conscience in the name of faith, I'm shipwrecking both. When I ignore faith to follow my conscience, I'm adrift too.
I'm working on developing both - really studying Scripture so my faith is rooted in something real, and really listening to the Spirit speaking through my conscience so I actually live out what I believe. It's slower than just obeying rules, but it's creating actual integrity.
