I'm a spiritual director and I spend a lot of time listening to people's prayers. There's this beautiful image here - Jesus is constantly interceding for people, always making petition on our behalf.
That means even when I'm not praying, even when I forget, even when I'm lost and confused, someone is still advocating for me. That takes the pressure off my prayer life in a good way. I don't have to get it right because Jesus is covering the gaps.
I've started inviting spiritual directees into that reality. You don't have to pray perfectly. You don't have to figure everything out. Jesus is already interceding. Your job is just to show up and be honest.
