God tells Abraham to get out - out of your country, your kindred, your father's house. It's a severance. Abraham is told to leave belonging and familiarity.
My family emigrated, and my grandfather talked about this verse constantly. The call to go required leaving everything known. He was old when he left. This passage validated the pain of it.
And it suggested that the severance was necessary for the blessing. You can't become something new while staying in the place that formed you the old way. Leaving is part of being called.
