I'm a Christian activist working on racial justice, and I sometimes feel conflicted - am I doing this for God or for my own sense of moral righteousness? Am I actually following Jesus or just performing activism?
John's phrase - they 'follow the Lamb wherever he goes' - became my test. I ask: am I following Jesus specifically? Not virtue. Not my own convictions about what's right. Jesus?
When I remember it's specifically about following Jesus - the one who ate with tax collectors, healed on the Sabbath, turned over the money changers' tables - it clarifies. I'm not pursuing justice as an abstract principle. I'm following a specific person into dangerous places.
That distinction matters to me. It's not about being good. It's about being faithful to someone.
