The text describes the craftspeople who would build the tabernacle: they are filled with the spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding and knowledge and all manner of workmanship. These people are literally spiritually gifted to do manual labor well.
My son wanted to be a carpenter instead of going to college. Our church made him feel like he was settling, not pursuing his calling. But this text kept coming back to me: the holiest work - building the space where God dwells - requires Spirit-filled craftsmanship.
I told my son what I wish someone had told me: the Spirit of God makes carpenters wise and skilled the same way He makes prophets eloquent. Your work is sacred because you're doing it with excellence and integrity.
