When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, 'He is out of his mind.' Jesus's own family thought he was crazy. They were concerned enough to try to physically take him away.
That detail didn't make the official theology I was taught. Jesus's family didn't understand him. They thought his mission was delusion. Only later—after resurrection—did some of them become believers. I find comfort in that. If Jesus's literal family misunderstood him, maybe it's okay that people misunderstand me too. Maybe prophetic work looks insane from the inside. Maybe the people closest to you sometimes can't see what you're seeing. That doesn't invalidate the vision. It just means you might walk it alone for a while.
