I'm a biology professor and I take the transmission of knowledge seriously - not just facts, but ways of thinking, intellectual humility, how to ask good questions. This verse is about the same thing with faith.
I had a mentor who wasn't flashy or famous, but he was faithful. He showed up. He answered my questions. He modeled integrity. Now I'm doing that for younger faculty and for students who are interested in faith. It's not dramatic, but it matters.
What strikes me is the emphasis on faithful people, not impressive people. A faithful person doesn't need to be the best or the smartest. They just need to show up consistently and pass on what they know to people who will pass it on again. That's how knowledge and faith actually persist.
