If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. I used to read this as 'the more faith you have, the more power you have,' like faith is a quantity you accumulate.
But the verse says faith 'as small as' a mustard seed. The tininess is actually the point. Faith isn't about the magnitude of your belief. It's about the direction of your belief. A mustard seed doesn't have to be enormous to grow into something that changes the landscape. I think about my own faith in terms of small, consistent movements. I read Scripture. I show up for community. I try to act justly. None of it feels extraordinary. But over time, it reorganizes my priorities and relationships. The mountain moves not because I accumulate enough belief to force it, but because I've placed my trust somewhere that's actually moving. My movement toward that center shifts everything.
