Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John defines eternal life as relationship, not duration.
Eternal life isn't about endless existence. It's about knowing God. The quality of being in relationship with the source of life. You could be alive forever and not have eternal life if you're not connected to God. Conversely, the moment you know God, eternal life has begun. It's not something that starts after you die. It starts now, in relationship.
