I'm a missionary, and I've spent my whole career thinking about how to present the gospel across cultures. How to make it understandable. How to contextualize it.
But John's vision is of an angel proclaiming the eternal gospel to every nation, tribe, language, and people. Not contextualizing. Proclaiming. The gospel itself is alive and transcends cultures.
That freed me from something. I don't have to make the gospel fit. I have to let it loose in each place and let it do its own work. Sometimes it looks Asian. Sometimes it looks African. Sometimes it looks like something I've never seen.
I've become a lot less controlling as a missionary. I'm releasing the gospel into communities and trusting its own power.
