Paul establishes: 'Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them.' Stay where you are and be faithful.
I wanted to be a missionary in Africa. I thought that's where the 'real' ministry was. Real faith meant leaving comfort, taking risk, going somewhere hard. My pastor suggested I consider my situation first: a single mother of four, working full-time at a nonprofit serving homeless youth. That's not less ministry. That is ministry.
I've relinquished the fantasy of Africa. I'm present with the vulnerable youth in my city. I'm showing them that faith can sustain them through chaos. I'm teaching them that God works through people who stay present. Paul's right: the calling isn't primarily about location. It's about faithfulness where you are.
