Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, 'Do you believe in the Son of Man?' The blind man has been interrogated, defended, cast out. Now Jesus asks him to believe.
The man asks who the Son of Man is so he can believe. Jesus says: 'You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.' The seeing comes through encounter, not through visual clarity. The man believed because he experienced Jesus's presence, not because his sight was restored.
