I'm an atheist listening to my Christian friend explain her faith. I'm skeptical of most of it, but I asked her what 'creation' means in her theology.
She read me this: 'You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created.' And then she said: 'God created everything not because God needed it, but because God wanted to share joy.'
That reframes creation entirely. Not as a project God needed to do. Not as a test. But as an overflow of joy. God creating was generous, not necessary.
I don't think I'm becoming Christian. But something in that - the idea that existence itself is God's generosity - that shifts how I hold the world. We're not accidents. We're not here by default. We're here because something loving wanted us here.
Maybe that's as close as I'll get to faith. And maybe that's enough.
