But commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he will lead this people across and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see. Moses won't enter the Promised Land, but Joshua will. And Moses is told to prepare Joshua. To encourage him. To strengthen him. To commission him to a task that Moses himself cannot complete. This is a profound act of faith. Moses has been leading for forty years. Letting go isn't optional. But the way he lets go matters. He actively prepares his successor. He speaks words of encouragement. He passes the mantle with intention. I think about churches where the founder leaves and the institution crumbles because they didn't prepare someone to carry on. I think about families where the elder dies and nobody knows the recipes or the stories because they were never explicitly passed down. Moses knows how to hand off power. He does it with grace. He does it knowing Joshua will do things differently, but blessing him anyway.
