I'm thinking about that image - a cloud of witnesses. Not judges waiting to condemn me if I fail. Witnesses. People who've gone before, who know what this is like, who are watching to see what I do with what they've given me.
It changes how I think about responsibility. I'm not just responsible for my own life. I'm carrying forward what they handed down. The people before me fought for faith, for integrity, for the possibility that God could be trusted. They're watching to see what I do with that.
That sounds like pressure, but it's not. It's companionship. I'm not alone in this race. I'm surrounded by people who've already run it. That gives me courage.
