When Moses finished setting up the tabernacle, he anointed it and consecrated it and all its furnishings. Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of the families, brought their offerings. The dedication of the tabernacle called for more than just showing up. The leaders brought actual gifts, substantial gifts, repeated gifts. They invested in what they'd just built together. I think about the process of dedicating my home. After we closed on the mortgage, we had a blessing ceremony. We invited our closest friends. Everyone brought something: food, flowers, a prayer written on a card. It took several hours. We sat in each room and blessed it. Some people cried. We walked the perimeter and prayed protection over it. That home was never just a house after that. Every room felt sacred because we'd invited people to help us consecrate it. That's what the leaders are doing here: not just accepting the tabernacle as finished, but making it holy through their gifts and presence and intentional celebration.
