Jesus gave them this answer: 'Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can only do what he sees his Father doing, for whatever the Father does the Son also does.' Jesus claims complete dependence on seeing what God is doing.
He's not claiming independence or self-sufficient power. He's watching, seeing, and doing the same thing. It's a model of alignment. Not rebellion or innovation, but attunement. I think about my own work—when have I been most effective? When I've been trying to force my vision or when I've been paying attention to what seems to be emerging? Jesus suggests the power lies in the alignment, not in the force.
