Jesus promises the overcomer that he will give authority over the nations. Just as Jesus received authority from his Father, those who persevere receive delegated authority. Co-rulers with Christ.
The promise includes ruling with an iron scepter, which sounds harsh. But it's the same scepter Jesus uses: judgment mixed with mercy. Authority that creates order from chaos. Rule that serves justice.
Jesus also promises the morning star. The star that heralds the coming dawn. The believer who overcomes becomes a herald of Christ's return, a light pointing toward the new day that's coming.
