I'm a pastor's kid and I've seen a lot of Bible misuse - people twisting verses to support their political views, their prejudices, their comfortable theology. It's made me skeptical of people who claim they know what the Bible says.
But Paul's pushing for something harder - actually studying the text, understanding context, not taking things out of their frameworks. Rightly dividing the word takes work. It takes intellectual rigor. It's not just about sincerity.
I've gone back to seminary partly because of this verse. I want to be approved as a worker because I know what I'm talking about. Not just because I'm sincere or I prayed over it. Because I actually understand the text well enough to interpret it responsibly.
