Peter writes to people losing everything. Property seized, businesses closed, social standing erased. Imagine being able to tell them about an inheritance that can't be taken from you. That's what he does here.
The inheritance is kept in heaven. Not because it's ethereal or unreal, but because it's in the only place that actually endures. Everything on earth can be pried from your hands eventually. But heaven is sealed. Guarded. Impossible to break into and steal what's yours.
Peter also says we are kept by God's power. Not that we keep ourselves through discipline or faith or good works. We are kept. Held. Preserved. The tense suggests ongoing action. Right now, in this moment, God is keeping you. Your enemies can't get to you the way you fear they can. There are limits to what can happen to you without God's permission. That's not naive optimism. That's warfare theology. You're protected by something stronger than the forces arrayed against you.
