For everything there is a season, a time to be born and a time to die, a time to weep and a time to laugh. The teacher is acknowledging that life has rhythms - not all of it is the same season, not all of it is productive, not all of it is happy.
I'm a person who wants to optimize everything, wants to be productive all the time, wants to always be moving toward goals. This verse gave me permission to be in different seasons. Sometimes it's a time to plant. Sometimes it's a time to pluck up what's planted. Both are necessary. You're not failing if you're in a season that's not about growth.
I was in a season of deep grief, and I kept feeling like I should be 'getting over it,' moving forward, being productive. This verse helped me understand that there's a time to mourn. That's not failure. That's rhythm. That's the necessary season before laughter comes again.
