A Third of the Light Darkened

The fourth angel sounds, and a third of the sun is struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars. So a third of the day is dark, and a third of the night.

Light is affected. Day and night are disrupted. The cycles that regulate human life and agriculture are broken. Confusion spreads. Navigation becomes impossible. The reliable structures that order existence become unreliable.

Partial darkness might be worse than total. You can't fully adjust. You're in twilight. Uncertainty. The world becomes an alien place where the basics you've always counted on fail.
