The second angel sounds, and something like a huge mountain of fire is thrown into the sea. A third of the sea becomes blood, a third of the creatures die, a third of ships are destroyed.
The sea in Scripture often represents chaos. A flaming mountain entering the sea disrupts the boundary between order and chaos. Fish and marine life die. The ecological system collapses in that region.
Ships are destroyed. Travel becomes impossible. Isolation increases. The interconnected world becomes fragmented. Trade stops. Communication ceases. Judgment creates separation and vulnerability.
