Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Jesus uses an image from agriculture to explain his coming death.
The grain doesn't avoid its purpose by refusing to fall. It just remains a single grain. But if it falls, dies, gets broken open, it multiplies. I think about areas of my life where I'm holding tight, refusing to let something die. Jesus is saying: that's where life is multiplying. Not in what you preserve. In what you release.
