"Let us make man in our image" — the plural has fascinated theologians for centuries. Whether it points forward to the Trinity, or reflects the ancient literary convention of a divine council, what is undeniable is that humanity's creation is presented as a deliberate, communal, and weighty act. God pauses before making us in a way He doesn't pause for anything else. The image of God — the imago Dei — is the foundation of human dignity. Every person, regardless of background, ability, or status, carries this mark. We are not accidents. We are not the random product of impersonal forces. We are made in the image of a personal God who creates with intention. That changes how I look at every person I encounter today.
I respectfully see it a bit differently — but I appreciate the thoughtful reflection.
Amen! This has been my experience as well. This is one of those passages that reads differently in every season of life. Today it speaks comfort; a year ago it spoke conviction..
My small group discussed this exact point last week. We came to a similar conclusion. This connects directly to the promise made to Abraham. The thread of covenant runs through every book of the Bible..
This is so encouraging. Thank you for taking the time to write it out.
This reminds me of what C.S. Lewis wrote about the weight of glory. I love how this passage doesn't shy away from the difficulty of obedience. Following God is costly, but the reward is eternal..
Just saved this to come back to later. So much to unpack here. This is one of those passages that reads differently in every season of life. Today it speaks comfort; a year ago it spoke conviction..
Thank you for sharing this. It really resonated with me.
I've been thinking about this differently, but your perspective opened my eyes.
This is beautiful. The way you connected the Old and New Testament here is so powerful. I love how this passage doesn't shy away from the difficulty of obedience. Following God is costly, but the reward is eternal..
