I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I have learned from the Father I have made known to you. Jesus elevates the disciples from servant status to friendship.
Friends know your business. You share with them. You include them in what matters to you. That's the relationship Jesus offers. Not from a distance. Not conditional. But full knowledge and inclusion. I find that radical—that Jesus wants genuine friendship, not just obedience.
