“And shall put thereon the covering of badgers’ skins, and shall spread over it a cloth wholly of blue, and shall put in the staves thereof.”
And shall put thereon a covering of seal-skin, and shall spread thereon a cloth wholly of blue — the protective layering (seal-skin covering, blue cloth) creates a multi-level barrier protecting the most holy furnishings from unauthorized viewing. The blue cloth signifies heavenly holiness (blue is the color of the firmament and divine presence in Numbers 15:38-39).
