They shall not go in to see the holy things as they are being covered, lest they die — the prohibition against viewing the uncovered holy things is absolute; even the sight of the holiness being prepared for transport can be fatal. This regulation protects the Kohathites from presumption and maintains the barrier between the most holy and the merely holy.
