“And thou shalt give the money, wherewith the odd number of them is to be redeemed, unto Aaron and to his sons.”
And you shall give the money to Aaron and to his sons as the redemption of those who are in excess among them — the redemption payment goes to the priesthood, establishing a financial connection between Israel's firstborn obligation and priestly support.
