“And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the Lord, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.”
I myself have selected your fellow Levites from among the Israelites as a gift to you, dedicated to the LORD to do the work at the tent of meeting' — God Himself grants the Levites to Aaron as a 'matanah—a gift; the Levites are 'dedicated to the LORD' (netunim), set apart for sacred service. The gift-relationship establishes God as the provider of priestly helpers.
