“For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.”

For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, go, and he goes; and that one, come, and he comes. I say to my servant, do this, and he does it — the centurion's authority argument: he understands authority because he lives within a hierarchy of authority. Under authority himself, he commands those under him, and they obey without question. His insight is that Jesus operates in the same kind of authority structure — Jesus speaks and the disease obeys, just as the centurion speaks and his soldiers obey.

When He had strengthened His disciples by more perfect teaching, He goes to Capernaum to work miracles there; as it is said, When he had ended all his sayings, he entered into Capernaum.

Here we must understand that He did not enter before He had ended these sayings, but it is not mentioned what space of time intervened between the termination of His discourse, and His entering into Capernaum. For in that interval the leper was cleansed whom Matthew introduced in his proper place.

Now the Evangelist, when he said that the servant was about to die, did not err, because he would have died had he not been healed by Christ.
