The anthropomorphic language of food presented to the Lord — used throughout the offerings section — communicates that the sacrificial system is a real exchange: Israel gives; God receives. The God who does not need food nonetheless designates certain portions as His food, communicating that He genuinely receives what His people present. The covenant relationship is a relationship of genuine mutual engagement, not a one-way performance.
