JOHN 10:26 — KING JAMES VERSION 0
“But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.”
But you do not believe because you do not belong to my sheep — Jesus moves from the accusation of disbelief to the deeper reality: these opponents do not believe because they are not part of His flock. This verse reflects Johannine election theology — that faith is not ultimately a human achievement but is rooted in belonging to Christ's flock, called by His voice. This does not excuse their unbelief but identifies its root cause.
Church Fathers on John 10:26
And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication. Encænia is the feast of the dedication of the temple; from the Greek word signifying new. The dedication of any thing new was called encænia.
It was the feast of the dedication of the temple, after the return from the Babylonish captivity.
Or, it was in memory of the dedication under Judas Maccabeus. The first dedication was that of Solomon in the autumn; the second that of Zorobabel, and the priest Jesus in the spring. This was in winter time.
