“For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.”
God's promise to be like a lion to Ephraim and like a young lion to the house of Judah, who will tear apart, carry off, and rescue with no one to deliver, articulates God's transformation from a protector into a predator, as covenant judgment takes the form of violent assault from which there is no escape.
