“For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.”
For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. — Paul's paradox: the law itself ('dia nomou') mediated his death ('apethanon') to the law's dominion, liberating him for God-orientation; this is mystical death, a participation in Christ's cross that severs the old obligation.

“For I through the Law died unto the Law.” This may be viewed in two ways; it is either the law of grace which he speaks of, for he is wont to call this a law, as in the words, “For the law of the Spirit of life made me free:” Romans 8:2 or it is the old Law, of which he says, that by the Law itself he has become dead to the Law.
