Yet, at the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the peoples among whom they were scattered; and I will restore the fortunes of Egypt, and bring them back to the land of Pathros, to the land of their origin; and there they shall be a lowly kingdom, introducing an unexpected reversal: after forty years, God will restore Egypt, but not to former greatness. The gathering mirrors the future restoration of Israel, suggesting that redemption is available even to nations that opposed God.
