“And he made the staves of shittim wood, and overlaid them with gold, to bear the table.”
They made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold to carry the table. The gold-overlaid acacia poles for the table — exactly as Exodus 25:28 specified — complete the table's transport mechanism. The table and its carrying mechanism are one unified object, ready to move with the covenant community wherever God leads.
