Colossians

Colossians answers a church Paul had never met, unsettled by teaching that dressed itself in visions, ascetic rules, and elemental spirits. Paul's response is not argument first but adoration: a majestic hymn to Christ, the image of the invisible God, in whom all things were created and hold together, in whom all the fullness of deity dwells bodily. If believers have died and risen with such a Lord, then regulations about food and festivals are shadows; the substance belongs to Christ. The letter then turns homeward, clothing the new self in compassion, forgiveness, and love, and filling ordinary households with grace.
