For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they have always been' — the taunt questions the faithfulness of God's promise. The fathers' sleep (pateres koimaō) alludes to the delay of the parousia across generations. The uniformitarianism premise (tas archēs diamenein) asserts that constancy of natural law disproves the resurrection and renewal.
