Elisha's response demonstrates that Elisha has indeed received the prophetic power that he requested and that his authority as a prophet is established through the performance of the same kind of miracle that Elijah performed. The subsequent account of Elisha's ministry establishes Elisha as a wonder-worker through whom YHWH performs miracles. The theological significance lies in the assurance that the prophetic succession continues.
