And they arose early: and it came to pass when the light began to break, that Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send thee away — the early rising 'when the light began to break' (ba'alot hashachar) marks the beginning of the new day, suggesting that a night has passed between the meal and this moment.
